Help Us Continue Giving Away Eggs for Free

Donation protected
Our chicken town, Seraphim City (the highest order of angels, population 30), is located on Turtle Hill Farm at the Appalachian Catholic Worker in Roane County, West Virginia. The proud Mayor of Seraphim City is our house-chicken, Auntie Fah.

We started keeping chickens when ACW was founded more than 25 years ago, and we've always given away their eggs for free to anyone in need. Once the price for a dozen skyrocketed, so did the cost of feed, and your help has allowed us to continue keeping our hens happy, healthy, laying, and giving.

Last year, neighbors told us they wanted to start raising their own flock, too. So, now, along with eggs to eat, we also provide fertilized eggs to hatch, baby chicks, help with planning and building coops, and 24/7 technical support on anything chicken-related, including how to train livestock guardian dogs.

Thanks for whatever amount you can contribute to our efforts.

A Little about Seraphim City
Seraphim City is the collection of our coops, brooders, grow-out pens, feed bins, and watering stations arranged as a diorama of a small town in the mountains to serve as our social/political commentary.

The coops for adults include:
  • the "Chick Inn" motel,
  • "Sol et Ova" Community Center,
  • an authentic Appalachian tin-roofed shack,
  • H.U.D. Housing (also an infirmary)
  • BLM headquarters & the LRC (Lesbian Resource Center)

The grow-out pen for pullets & cockerels is a gazebo/bandstand at the center of town.

The brooder where hens raise their chicks is "The Chapel of O Jerusalem" (Mt. 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!")

Food bins and watering stations include:
  • an outhouse with crescent moon on the door,
  • the West Wing T.A.C.O. Shop (T*ump Always Chickens Out),
  • Turtle Hill's Post Office.

This summer, we'll be building our last coop, the coal baron's McMansion.
