Help us compete at Historic Hayward Field
Donation protected
Friends, family, and fans of the sport, my name is Andrés and I coach Jaden and Josue. I have coached track and field for 18 years and hold USATF Level 3 and IAAF/World Athletics Level 5 certifications.
Historically our students have had to navigate many non-traditional variables that make it difficult for them to have equitable opportunities. The surrounding area is challenged with community violence, high poverty, transience, lack of basic needs, homelessness, food insecurities, etc…
In an extremely challenging environment, our student-athletes have shown the resolve of champions on the track and in the classroom.
Jaden and Josue have met the qualifying standard to compete at the 2022 Nike Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
Experiences teach us in ways that words and curriculum cannot. Your donation will allow them to have the experience of a lifetime. Traveling to the Pacific Northwest will be a dramatic contrast to their current environment. In addition, Jaden and Josue will experience new people and regional cultures, and compete at one of the best facilities in the world. Jaden and Josue have done all they can to create this opportunity for themselves. Unfortunately, the cost of this trip is beyond our collective abilities and this is why we need your help.
About our athletes:
Jaden is a talented, multi-sport freshman who is also a member of our school's Beta Club.
His GPA places him in the top quartile of his freshman class. He is a natural leader; resilient and dutiful.
His attendance and behavior are exemplary which affords him the respect of his peers as well as adults.
In his first year, Jaden was placed as our 1st leg in both the 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m relay. He was unsure of himself and was often seeking feedback early in the year. Competing against upperclassmen had him questioning why I placed him in those positions. I explained to him that I see a leader and a champion in him and wanted to prepare him for what comes ahead.
Very soon, Jaden began to close the gap between himself and his competitors. As our lead-off leg, Jaden has ushered our 4 x 400m relay team to a county/district and Region Championship, a new school record, and 6th overall at the State Championship.
Jaden ran the qualifying standard for the freshman 100m in his last invitational before the Region Championship.
Josue is a multi-talented junior who is a member of our school's band. Josue is a gifted artist who has aspirations of attending a 4-year university and creating his own clothing brand.
Josue is an excellent student and his GPA places him in the upper quartile of his junior class. He is a resilient, insightful student who meets challenges with a growth mindset.
Josue ended his sophomore season at the State Championship running a personal best of 57.05 in the 400 hurdles. Josue has had an outstanding response to the training plan this year and surpassed all expectations. In early April he ran 54.79 meeting the national emerging elite standard. 2 weeks later he ran 53.81 meeting the national championship standard.
This season Josue accomplished the following: 3x County/District Champion, County/District MVP (400h meet record), Tri-County Champion, 3x Region Champion, 3x MileSplit Gold Elite Standard. At the State Championship - 6th place in the 4x400 (New School Record), 5th overall 110h (New School Record), State Champion Runner up and New School Record in the 400h. This makes him a School Record holder in 4 events and 400h Championship Qualifying Standard in all 3 national championship meets.
