I’m starting this GoFundMe to help my sister, Doris, and my nephew, RJ, after the unexpected passing of her husband, and my brother in law, Redd. He passed away last Thursday, and our whole family is still trying to wrap our heads around it.

Redd was one of those people you just don’t forget. He was a husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor, and he wore every one of those titles with pride. He was a barber, a coach, an avid New Orleans Saints fan, and a proud member of his Jeep club. But most of all, he was someone who loved deeply and showed up for the people he cared about.

He and my sister Doris were together for nearly 30 years, and they built a beautiful life together. Their son RJ is in college now, and Redd was his biggest fan. Throughout high school and college, Redd never missed a single one of his football games. Redd worked hard every day to provide for his family and to make sure the people around him were taken care of. He was always the first to lend a hand, tell a joke, give advice, or just sit and have a real conversation. There was never a dull moment with him around.

Losing him has been devastating. Doris is now facing life as a single income household while also caring full-time for our mom, and supporting her son as he goes to college. On top of everything, funeral costs are close to $20,000, which is a huge burden to carry right now.

We’re hoping to raise enough to help cover those costs and give Doris and RJ a little breathing room as they try to find their footing without Redd - their rock.
