In Loving Memory of Marta Negron
02/23/1936 - 02/25/2025

My name is Marvin Ortiz , and I am Marta’s (Mom’s) grandson. It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beloved grandmother on 02/25/2025, just two days after her 89th birthday. Her loss has left our family in shock and grief, and we are asking for your support during this incredibly difficult time.

Mom was a beacon of love, kindness, and compassion. She dedicated 28 years of her life to public service as an educator with the New York City Department of Education. She was deeply committed to helping others and shaping young minds, a testament to the love and care she poured into everything she did.

Beyond her work as an educator, Mom was an avid supporter of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), always caring deeply for animals and the environment. Her love for nature and all living beings was matched only by her devotion to her church and her family. She poured so much love into those around her, and she had a rare gift of making everyone feel special.

Mom had a smile that could light up the darkest room, and a laugh that was infectious. She was the type of person whose presence brought joy to any gathering. Her heart was big, and she always put others first. Whether it was a family member, friend, or even a stranger in need, she would do whatever she could to help and make them feel loved.

One of her joys in life was indulging in the finer things—shopping at Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s brought her happiness, and she loved to treat herself every now and then. But even more, she loved to share those moments with her family, making each memory unforgettable.

Mom was deeply proud of her Puerto Rican heritage and often spoke about her family back home. Her roots were incredibly important to her, and she carried them with pride, strength, and love.

And for those who knew her well, they’ll remember her sense of humor and the way she could turn any situation into something lighthearted. She used to say, “Me levanté con el monio parado,” which was her way of telling us she wasn’t having the best day. Of course, her saying that always brought a smile to our faces, because we knew she was going to get through whatever came her way with grace and humor. She had a way of making us all laugh, even when things were tough.

Mom is survived by her daughter, Martha Negrón; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In her passing, we are not only mourning the loss of a mother, grandmother, and friend, but also of a soul who was a source of so much light and joy. Our world feels a little darker without her, but we are comforted knowing she lived a life full of love, laughter, and giving.

As we prepare to say our final goodbyes and celebrate her life, we are asking for help with funeral expenses. Any contribution, no matter how small, will mean the world to us. It’s not easy to ask for help, but in this time of grief, we are reaching out to our community for support.

Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your generosity. Mom touched so many lives, and we hope to honor her memory in a way that reflects the incredible woman she was!
