Our incredible Joel is turning 40 — and if you know him, you know this milestone deserves something truly special.

Seven years ago, we made the move from Sydney to Brisbane, and in that time, Joel has built friendships that span cities, suburbs, workplaces, and playgrounds. He’s the kind of person who naturally draws people in — with his infectious laugh, genuine care, and that rare gift of making everyone feel seen, heard, and appreciated.

Joel is a man of presence. He lives with his heart wide open — always checking in, always sharing a memory, always grateful. He is the first to make you laugh, the last to leave a conversation, and the one who remembers the little things that make you feel important. Whether you’ve known him for decades or just met him at a BBQ, you’ve likely walked away feeling lighter, happier, and like you’ve made a friend for life.

He has spent the last few years pouring his energy, time, and finances into creating unforgettable moments for our family — putting the kids first, saying yes to the little things, and never asking for anything in return.

But if there's one thing that brings Joel a deep, peaceful kind of joy — it's being out on the water, fishing rod in hand, soaking in the sunrise and salty air. Unfortunately, his trusty fishing gear has seen better days. It's been well-loved — and well-used — but it's definitely time for an upgrade.

So this year, instead of trying to wrangle all of his many wonderful friends into one physical space (a social butterfly’s birthday challenge!), I’d love to invite you to help celebrate him another way — by chipping in for a Shimano Stella SW D. I know this will become his prize possession, not because of what it is, but because he will know that everyone who he cares about has contributed towards it in some small way.
