Hi there, we're Ty Valentyne and GeishaMonroe, your favorite YouTubers, streamers, and as of recently, full-time caregivers to a wonderful father diagnosed with Dementia.
For the last three months, we have been blessed with the opportunity to care for my father as he makes his journey through dementia. When we started this transition, we had hoped that we would be able to continue our lives as normally as possible. Unfortunately, life has other plans, and we were very rudely made aware that this would not be an option for us. We have faced countless hardships over the past 3 months, including losing our only 4-wheel drive vehicle, a multitude of hospital visits, and the loss of Ty's income due to abuses against him in the workplace. To say that it has been stressful is an understatement.
We are currently going through the process of being accepted into the IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services) program here in California. However, this process has ended up taking much longer than we had previously expected due to (we assume) limited caseworkers. Our area only has one caseworker for 20,000 residents. As you can imagine, this puts us in a position of having to wait, whether we like it or not. My father will have his assessment for this program in a few weeks. It is not a matter of whether or not he is accepted, as he has a litany of health problems that make him an excellent candidate for this.
Where the problem lies, is that we are running out of money...fast! We had hoped that our savings would get us to the finish line, and upon further inspection, it seems we were a bit too optimistic with the speed at which the government moves (HA). We are asking for your help to get us by just a little bit longer. My father's income is very limited even by social security standards, and he has only ever worked minimum wage jobs his entire life. So, dipping into any sort of savings he might have is not an option, as he has none. I will continue to make money how I have for the past decade, through art and entertainment. That being said, we will also be doing a 3-day fundraising event this weekend, March 6th, 7th & 8th on twitch.tv/GeishaMonroe starting at 7 pm each night, since that is generally when dad settles in for the night.
This whole experience has been a much larger sacrifice than I had ever imagined (and we knew it would be a lot of work). But I wouldn't change that for the world. If we hadn't taken on my father's care, there is a nearly 100% chance that he would have succumbed to a rather nasty infection caused by a fall, prior to us rescuing him. This infection had him hospitalized for days and truly highlighted the level of constant care he requires as he progresses into dementia. I love my father dearly and could not be happier to have him here, as he is always a bright, happy, and positive person, in spite of everything. We understand that the state of the world has forced everyone to tighten their purse strings and it may not be feasible for most to donate. If you are not able to donate, we would appreciate you sharing our campaign and if you have the time, coming to see us for the fundraising streams as I make a small amount of ad revenue and every little bit helps right now. Thank you for taking the time to engage with our story, it means the world to me.
