Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center rescues and rehabilitates around 3,000 wild animals every year. Many of these animals come to us because they have been injured through human influenced changes to their environments. Sloths, monkeys and their babies are being electrocuted on uninsulated power lines. Roads and other human developments are breaking up ecosystems, forcing animals to emerge from their natural environments where they are being attacked by domestic dogs or hit by vehicles.
In order to diagnose many of the resulting injuries that these animals sustain, we need to take x-rays. Unfortunately, after many years of service our current x-ray machine has stopped working and as it was already second-hand when we received it, it’s not possible to repair - we need to buy a new machine!
To provide critical care without an x-ray machine we are forced to take the injured animals to the local veterinary teaching university which is over an hour away. Sadly, we cannot afford to x-ray all the animals as it costs $50 per x-ray so we are having to prioritise the most critically ill. Additionally, many of the animals are too sick or too badly injured to make the journey.
With a new x-ray machine, we won’t have to prioritise the treatment of injured animals, we will be able to take as many x-rays as required to make an accurate diagnosis and we won't have to transport animals that are critically ill.
We need your support to raise the funds required to purchase a new x-ray machine. Every dollar we receive takes us a step closer to providing critically injured wildlife with the best chance of survival.
