Long story short, our upstairs neighbor Robert W. Rzentkowski passed away a month ago and we were the only people on his hospital record. When he passed we were asked if we would cover his funeral costs since there was no known next of kin, so this embarked us on a journey of searching through his apartment to find information on possible family members, if he had any funerary services pre-paid for, and trying to understand what to do in this whole dilemma.

Robert was 86, a lifelong Chicagoan, old school Polish, a devout Catholic, a genealogy and history researcher, a typewriter repairman, an active Boy Scouts member, a collector, and probably much more we'll never find out. We got to know most of this after his passing while going through his belongings.

While trying to navigate the entire funeral/burial process, we found he had a pre-paid family plot at a cemetery and that just left the funeral services to be dealt with. I reached out to a customer at work who is a funeral director; he helped us with the last arrangements and donated the funeral at cost. We are so grateful to Milos at Caring Cremations, who was able to retrieve Robert from the hospital, prepare his body and transport him to the cemetery. We wouldn't had been able to do it without him.

We already paid for it so now we're asking our great community to help us raise the funds so we can make back that money. I trust the people we know and I am completely sure we will be able to raise our goal amount, we can do this!
