Help us bury Kaarin

Donation protected
After nearly six decades of fighting, Kaarin died early on March 1.
Kaarin meant a lot to a lot of people. Born in New Orleans to a crowded family of six girls and a boy, she was always proud to tell people she started working at fifteen in New Orleans' French Quarter--a job she got by lying to a manager about her age. She left home early setting out first to New York City, then moving to Florida, and finally settling in the Bay Area. Often, she arrived alone but left with countless new friends.
Anyone who knew Kaarin, knew how independent she was. In 2006, Kaarin was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease. Insistent that she would keep working, Kaarin learned how to do her own dialysis treatment at home at night, allowing her to continue to work and do the things she loved, which was shop, eat good food, drink good wine, watch MSNBC and spend time with all the people she loved.
During the last few months of her life, Kaarin had to stop working. She struggled to continue to pay her escalating Bay Area rent and during that time her life insurance policy lapsed. That's why I'm asking for help covering the expense of bringing her home to New Orleans so that she can be buried with the rest of our family.
