Help us bury a war hero
I really hate these things but I’m not sure where else to turn. My biological father was a 3 time Purple Heart recipient in the Vietnam war and also earned a bronze star metal of valor for his time over there. He’s made some bad life choices since his time over there and was estranged for many years from most of his family. I reconnected with him 2 years ago and have done my best to help him get the help he needed and also show him what life could be like. I tried my best to let him know he was loved and not alone.
unfortunately on Saturday he went to the ER with difficulty breathing and was put on a ventilator. During that process he coded and didn’t get enough oxygen for a good amount of time. Since Saturday he has gotten worse and worseand they’ve now called in palliative care and have told us it’s time to let him go.
Since I’m the one he has listed on all of his VA paperwork it’s my responsibility to cover his final arrangements and I just wasn’t financially prepared. I’ve done lots of research and made a ton of phone calls and it looks like the VA willcover his plot at a veterans cemetery, the full honor guard and reimburse me $786 toward the funeral expenses. I believe the fact that he fought for our country and sacrificed himself and earned such honors that he deserves Atleastthis much.
I’ve called 3 funeral homes and gotten pricing of about $3900 (cremation and burial of the ashes at the veterans cemetery) to $7000 for a full funeral with burial. I’m really sorry to be asking this of my friends and family but I just can’t cover all of that. Anything will help and I’ll finance the rest.
thank you in advance
