HELP US BUILD THE FUTURE OF ROWING IN DONEGAL
In 2025, a small group of passionate volunteers decided that the young people of Donegal Town and the North West deserved the same opportunities as athletes anywhere else in Ireland.
That dream became Northwest Rowing Club.
For years, we travelled long distances to train and compete because there was no local flat-water rowing club available to our young athletes. We knew that if rowing was to thrive in Donegal, we would have to build something ourselves.
We started with determination, hard work, and a belief that local young people deserved better.
The challenges were enormous. We had no dedicated venue, no water access, limited equipment, and very little funding. There were many reasons why the project should have failed.
Instead, our community stepped forward.
Parents, volunteers, local supporters, and young athletes worked together to make the impossible possible. We secured access to the water, developed training programmes, built a positive club culture, and created opportunities.
The results exceeded all expectations.
In our very first season, Northwest Rowing Club athletes reached the highest levels of junior rowing in Ireland.
• Gold medal at the prestigious Skibbereen Regatta – the first ever achieved by a Donegal rower.
• Irish Junior Champion title – another historic first for Donegal rowing.
• Multiple medals at national competitions.
• Two athletes to compete at Irish National Team Trials in 2026.
Most importantly, we have created a place where young people can grow in confidence, learn discipline, develop resilience, and build lifelong friendships.
Today, our biggest challenge is no longer attracting athletes.
It is providing enough equipment for them.
Our athletes are proving they can compete with the best in Ireland, but many are training and racing with limited resources. To continue developing rowing in Donegal, we urgently need to expand our equipment fleet.
Our fundraising goal is to help purchase:
• Racing Quadruple Scull
• Two Racing Double Sculls
• Two Racing Single Sculls
• Eight Pairs of Racing Oars
• Six Indoor Rowing Machines
• Equipment Storage Container
These purchases will allow more children and teenagers to participate in rowing, train safely, and compete at the highest level.
Every euro raised will directly support the development of youth rowing in Donegal.
Whether you donate €5, €50, or €500, you become part of a project that is creating opportunities for young people and building a lasting sporting legacy for the North West.
The athletes have already proven what they can achieve.
Now we need your help to give them the tools they deserve.
Thank you for supporting Northwest Rowing Club and believing in the future of young athletes in Donegal.
