What are we raising funds for? The Barns at Blue Mountain (501c3 non profit status pending) is going to be providing equine assisted therapy services for kids. Located at the former Dixie Pottery location in Abingdon, VA along with Blue Mountain Therapy , the program will use horses to help kids with emotional, developmental delays and physical limitations through animal and hands on activities. For those in the Abingdon area that were familiar with A Leg Up, our program will be very similar to this, but will also have additional offerings. Emory and Henry College just started their first Therapeutic Riding Program this Fall.

We believe in the outcomes of this and we know there's a need. We've taken the leap of faith to provide these services and we appreciate any and all the help the community has already provided.

We have signed a construction contract to start building 2 outdoor uncovered riding arenas, 4 run ins for the horses to get under during inclement weather, water ran for the horses in the field, and ADA compliant bathrooms at the riding arena. The cost for this is $135,000. Fencing is $16,000. We will have additional on-going financial needs. We also hope to eventually have a indoor covered riding arena.

Insurance only pays for the therapy. It doesn't pay for everything else involved with having the horse.

We believe that if we help those in need, it helps us all. It helps both the givers and the recipients.
