We are scared. We need your help.

After the nightmare that was the DEFRA ban came to an end in November 2022, we were elated to finally be able to start getting dogs into forever homes.

We feel like we’ve only just got started again and now we are facing something completely different and completely terrifying for our dogs.

As explained in her live, Elisa has run her private shelter for years – helping the stray cat and dog population in her local area of Romania. So many lives have been saved, so many litters of puppies and kittens prevented through our spay and neuter campaign; so much joy brought to families who have adopted dogs. All those years of quietly and peacefully working on her mission and making a difference.

That was until recently. Elisa was visited by the DSV (Romania’s version of DEFRA) and has basically been given an ultimatum: register as an official shelter and meet the demands of the DSV by the end of March, or the dogs and cats in the safety of Elisa’s shelter will be taken away and placed in the public shelters.

The public shelters are terrifying places for animals – dogs literally die from fights, food is scarce, disease is rife – it’s not an option for our babies. We cannot let this happen.

The demands given by the DSV include: have an office space, dressing room for staff, have a toilet for staff, have a medical treatment room, improve the waste management system and concrete every single area utilised by the dogs (pathways and play areas).

Elisa had been raising money to build an indoor, heated area for older dogs and young puppies. Unfortunately, every penny raised for this will now have to be used to go towards meeting the demands of the DSV – and it certainly will not cover it. Even though things like an office space and dressing room are not high on our list of priorities – we just care about the dogs – we know these are mandatory and we want to comply; we want to be able to continue to save lives peacefully.

As a team, we have been sobbing about what this could mean for the dogs at the shelter all day. Our hearts break for Elisa who gives her life, her every day to these animals. We cannot let them be taken and dumped in the public shelters – it’s unthinkable.

We don’t have official numbers of how much we will need to raise at this exact moment, but we know we need to start raising money quickly. And so we ask of you, our community, to please help us and our dogs once again.
We hate to ask, but we are absolutely desperate at this point.
