Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out with love and hope to ask for your support in creating something truly life-changing for my 6-year-old son. He is a bright, beautiful child who has been diagnosed with autism on the higher end of the spectrum with complex sensory needs. Every day, he faces challenges most of us can’t see or fully understand however he also brings so much joy, laughter, and love into our lives.

Because of his neurodiversity, the world can sometimes feel overwhelming for him. Even the smallest of changes in his surroundings or routine can cause stress, anxiety, or meltdowns. At home, we do our very best to help him feel safe, calm, and supported, one of the things that will really help him with this is his own dedicated sensory room.

A sensory room is a therapeutic space filled with carefully chosen equipment, textures, lights, and calming tools designed to help children like my son self-regulate, reduce anxiety, and feel safe and secure. For him, it won’t just be a room, it will be a sanctuary where he can find peace, learn to manage his emotions, and recharge when the world as he experiences it starts to feel too much.

Unfortunately, creating a proper sensory room requires specialized equipment and materials that are far beyond what we can afford on our own. Items like bubble tubes, fibre optic lights, mirrors, soft play mats, calming lights, and tactile panels are some of the things that are incredibly beneficial, but always seem to be at a premium and can add up quickly, we have done our best to provide what we can when we see the benefits they have to him, however planning a sensory room build has made me realise we simply can't afford to fund all of this ourselves, we have already put what we have into getting him what we can.

This is why I am humbly asking for your help. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring us closer to building a safe space that will give my son the chance to thrive, what I intend to use your generous donations for is to obtain the more specialised equipment to make the room as safe and beneficial to his needs as possible.

Your support will not only change his daily life but will provide him an environment to gain a more receptive headspace to focus on learning the life skills he needs, whilst giving our family the hope and strength we need in knowing he has a place where he feels safe, calm, and understood which will make an incredible difference to his wellbeing, his happiness, and his future.
