Hi, I’m Dr. Kate Stannard, an NHS doctor and co-founder of the Women in Medicine International Network (WIMIN). This summer, I’ve been training hard for my first ever half marathon, which I’ll be running on October 5th in Tonbridge to raise money for a school in Zimbabwe.
In partnership with MmaaSocial and CAMFED, WIMIN recently raised funds to provide a roof for Dongamuse Primary School in the rural Binga District of Zimbabwe.
These are the before & after photos of the new roof!
But that was just the beginning.
The 250 children at Dongamuse are still learning in classrooms with no windows, no furniture, unfinished walls, and dirt floors. It’s a tough environment — not just for learning, but for growing up with dignity and hope.
Photograph depicts the headmaster & school council showing the empty shell of the classroom.
For our campaign, #WIMIN25, we’re aiming to raise enough funds to:
Complete the classroom block
Construct a dedicated teachers’ block
These upgrades are essential for the school to receive full government registration.
Right now, Dongamuse is only a satellite school. This means that during exam periods, students must walk 10km each way, in the heat and dust, to the nearest registered school. Completing this project will allow them to take exams and learn in a safe, supported, and inspiring environment.
Please support my run & every penny raised will go directly to the school. No admin fees. No overheads. Just bricks, mortar, desks, and hope. Your donation — big or small — will help build a school, empower a community, and change lives.
Thank you so much for believing in this cause.
And wish me luck!
— Kate
