Many young girls in Liberia grow up facing unsafe environments, limited opportunities, and little access to guidance or education. We want to change that.

The Liberia Youth Safe Home Project is dedicated to building a secure, long-term residential facility for at-risk young females between the ages of 10 and 24. This home will be a safe haven — a place where they can live, learn, and grow in peace.

Our goal is to build the Safe Home facility from the ground up so that young women can have a stable environment filled with hope and opportunity. About the Founder

My name is Garmai Zakama, and I am the founder of the Liberia Youth Safe Home Project. I was born in Liberia and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Growing up between two worlds allowed me to see both the potential and the challenges that young girls face — especially those living without safety, guidance, or opportunity.

With over eight years of experience working in the field of youth care and community development, I’ve dedicated my life to supporting young people. I began my journey as a Community Support Worker at the age of 19, and since then, I’ve served as a Youth Support Worker, Group Home Coordinator, and Foster Parent.

Through these roles, I’ve worked closely with at-risk youth, helping them find stability, healing, and purpose. My experiences inspired me to create the Liberia Youth Safe Home Project — a place that offers young women in Liberia the same safety, guidance, and opportunities I’ve spent my career providing to youth in Canada.

This project is not just a dream; it’s a mission to build a home where every girl can grow with dignity, hope, and strength.
