HELP Me BUILD A SAFE HAVEN FOR GREECE’S STRAY ANIMALS

Hi, I'm Hannah! I'm dedicated to rescuing stray animals in Greece, and I need your help. When I arrived in Greece in 2020, I was shocked by the overwhelming number of cats and other animals struggling to survive on the streets. Back home in Ireland, stray animals are rare, but here in Greece, they’re everywhere—hungry, sick, and fighting just to stay alive.

Our Rescue Stories

• Lily

Our first rescue, found in a plastic bag with her siblings. Although some didn’t survive, Lily received the loving care she needed and has been with us ever since.

• Luna & Mogli

Two very sick kittens I found at just two months old. I nursed them back to health over several months before they found their forever homes.

• Grey

A tiny, sweet grey kitten with severe eye problems who, after weeks of care, was adopted by an amazing family in Germany.

• Sorica

Discovered in the summer of 2023 in a parking lot in Porto Cheli, barely clinging to life. With one missing eye, the other completely blind, dangerously underweight, dehydrated, and struggling to breathe, she fought to survive. She remained with me ever since.

• Nacho

In March 2025, a neighborhood cat I fed daily fell gravely ill. I couldn’t leave him behind, so I took him in and now he’s a cherished member of our family.

The Reality for Stray Animals in Greece

Stray animals in Greece often face dire conditions. Many suffer from malnutrition, dehydration, and untreated illnesses or injuries. Exposed to harsh weather scorching summers and cold winters they are left without proper shelter or care. Although many Greek people deeply love animals, economic hardships mean that even the most caring individuals can’t always take in these strays. Every stray deserves help, and while my resources are limited, I focus on rescuing the most vulnerable those whose lives would be doomed without intervention.

My Dream: An Animal Sanctuary

I dream of creating a safe haven a sanctuary where stray animals can receive food, water, medical care, and love.

My Vision Includes:

• Infrastructure & Sustainability:

– Land & Construction: I need to purchase or rent a suitable piece of land in Greece to build our shelter.

– Renewable Energy: I plan to invest in a photovoltaic (PV) system to power the shelter. This will help maintain essentials like heating blankets in winter and air conditioning during Greece’s extreme summer heat.

– Live Streaming the Build: Once we secure the land, we will live stream the construction process so you can watch our dream come to life in real time.

• Live Streaming & Transparency: When operational, cameras will be installed throughout the sanctuary to live stream daily activities—ensuring full transparency and giving you an inside look at how your support makes a difference.

• Dual-Purpose Goal: The aim is to create an environment where stray animals can be adopted into loving homes or, if immediate adoption isn’t possible, live out their lives safely and comfortably without being euthanized.

My Expertise & Realism

I am not a naïve dreamer. Through various jobs and volunteer work, I've gathered practical skills in areas such as animal care, community outreach, sustainable building, and everyday service roles.

I have volunteered with local shelters and nonprofit administration and this helped boost my organizational and communication skills. I would often work with animals on average of 10-12 hours a day and this commitment ensures that I am fully prepared to tackle any challenge.
