Naucrates are an Italian NGO dedicated to helping and protecting sea turtles and the environment on Koh Phra Thong in Thailand. They have worked on the island for the past 30 years and plan to continue their mission for years to come.

Our current museum is falling into disrepair - it is far away from where we are based and very difficult to maintain. It does not attract many visitors because of the location and the termites are destroying the building. We would love to move the museum next to our beachfront base, to encourage more visitors and where we can keep it clean, maintained and beautiful all season.

Environmental education is the main focus of Naucrates’ Project, in addition to nature conservation, scientific research, and spending time close to nature.

Our Nature Conservation Visitor and Information Center will be a focal point for visitors during the year.

The building will be constructed by local workers, using local materials, which will be carefully chosen in order to have minimum impact of the environment of the island.

The Center will include displays, specimens and information about; local wildlife, community life and scientific research, which is supported by the Naucrates experts in their relevant fields. The Information is intended to promote visitors’ understanding of nature and all local landscape related matters.

The building of the center would be planned for September 2026, with the aim to be up and running in December, in time for the high season on the island.

The center will include information on; reptiles of the island, birds, plants, mammals, seashells, mangroves, and the local community life style. The visitor information systems will also provide details of the landscape and the evolution of nature on the island. And for kids, there are fairy tales and legends from times past.

Visitors to the center will experience the spatial and temporal beauty and boundaries that exist on the island.
