Help us build a daycare center for poor families

I am raising money for a small, indigenous NGO in Mianzini, Arusha, Tanzania that I am working together with. Ayoub and his team want to establish a daycare center to provide high-quality education to children from low-income families and thus alleviate poverty in their community:

About 3 out of 5 families in our community in Mianzini, Arusha, Tanzania, cannot afford to send their children to daycare.

Early childhood education is key for a child’s success in its life. Children who attend daycares learn better social skills, such as listening or sharing. They learn how to cooperate with other kids their age. They perform better on math and reading. They have a higher probability of graduating from high school. And they build up confidence at an early age that will carry them throughout life.

While children from families with higher income get all these benefits, 60 percent of the children in our community miss out on them. 60 percent of the children are deprived of a bright perspective on their future. Even at an age of as young as six, they lag behind their economically better off peers.

We at Kukua Pamoja Tanzania believe that every child should have the same chances for a bright future - right from the start. No child should lag behind because of the financial status of its parents.

That’s why we want to set up a daycare center here in Mianzini, Arusha. One that is affordable even to the families with the lowest incomes. One that offers high-quality early childhood education - we want to build a place for the disadvantaged children of our community, where they can learn and grow. We want to support them in succeeding in their life.

And it‘s not only the children who will profit from the daycare center, but also their family – mainly young, single mothers, who are trapped in a vicious circle: They do not have the money to send their children do daycare and therefore have less time to go to work and earn the money to send their children to daycare…
