Over the past year, Stella Gould and Annie Orzen have been working hard to organize and fund a Women in Jazz Concert Series at San Francisco’s beautiful Jerry Garcia Amphitheater. This free-to-the-public series is designed to spotlight the incredible talents of local non-male jazz musicians — providing a much-needed platform for voices that have historically been underrepresented in jazz and the broader music industry.

In addition to creating professional opportunities for these amazing artists, the series also aims to:

• Provide free, high-quality live music experiences for the San Francisco community

• Celebrate and activate an underused park and venue in the city

We’re deeply committed to creating more opportunities for women and nonbinary artists in jazz, and to offering free musical experiences to the public. Up until now, we’ve been funding this project almost entirely on our own. While we’ve been lucky to receive some artist grant support, we still have a ways to go to meet our fundraising goals — especially so we can pay these musicians livable wages and keep the concerts free.
