Our world has been shattered. My husband, Valter, a loving father of four, has been fighting gastric cancer since 2024. After 20 years of love together, I am now facing the heartbreak of fulfilling his final wish—to bring him home to Portugal to be laid to rest.
My heart is broken as I write these words. My beloved husband, Valter Gomes, has been fighting a cruel battle with gastric cancer since 2024. From the very beginning, we both knew the fight would be long and painful, but we clung to hope. We thought we had more years together, more time with our boys, more life to share. We fought the beast with all the strength we had, through fear, treatments, ups and downs—always hoping we could control it long enough to live many more years.
But life can be unbearably cruel, and now we have run out of time.
Valter and I have shared 20 years of love, marriage, and family. Together, we raised four beautiful sons, who were the very centre of our world. He lived for them. His pride and joy was being their father—teaching them, laughing with them, and giving them all the love a father could give. Even in his suffering, he thought only of them, worrying about how they would go on without him, how much he would miss watching them grow, their wedding, children, and being a grandad one day.
To his boys, Valter is not just a father—he is their hero. To me, he is everything: my husband, my best friend. Our lives, our world, have been shattered beyond repair.
Throughout this painful journey, Valter and I shared our deepest fears and our hopes. One thing he told me many times was his wish to go back home to Portugal. That is where his roots are, where his family is, and where his heart always belonged. It was his dream to return there before the end, but we ran out of time. Now my last promise to him is to take him home, to lay him to rest surrounded by love, in the place he cherished.
The truth is, repatriation and funeral costs are far beyond what we can manage. After everything cancer has taken from us, we are left broken both emotionally and financially. This is why I am reaching out, asking for your help from the bottom of my heart.
Every single donation will help us cover:
- Funeral costs in London
- The repatriation and transport of Valter to Portugal
- His burial in Portugal
- Starting Over (family)
- Travel expenses for our family
Beyond the vow I made to him in sickness and in health, I promised to always love and care for him above all else. Even in death, I want to keep that promise. This is my last act of love for him, and a gift for our sons, so they and I can have a place to visit their father, husband to honour him, and to feel close to him always.
If you can find it in your heart to help us, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me and to our boys. From the depths of our broken hearts, thank you—for your love, your kindness, and your support in helping us take Valter home.
With love and eternal gratitude,
Noemi Gomes & Family ❤️
