The Wandering Womb is a puppet show! In the story a woman gives birth to an ocean to eventually drown in it. Our show draws upon research into hysteria, alternative folk history and maritime tradition. In its many manifestations, the womb gives birth to hilarious scenarios, catchy rhythms, and funny stories.

Our collective is made up of Daisy Green, Eleonora Del Bene, Ellie Stephan, and Lilah Sniderman. Daisy, Eleonora, and Ellie first met at Bread & Puppet Theater, where they worked together making puppets, performing, and taking care of the farm. Daisy and Eleonora continued to conspire in Europe, developing an early version of the performance which was performed by Ellie and Daisy in a private viewing at Bread & Puppet in 2024. Other collaborations were happening in parallel starting in 2020, including Lilah and Daisy’s work as organizers of Worn Not Torn Exchange, a bi-coastal clothing swap.

Collaboration for The Wandering Womb has been a constellation of road trips, snail mail, and coded text messages which have connected us over long distances and different time zones.
In our search to unravel these exchanges, we began to pull at a common thread– the need to be with the land and with each other.

While conceptual development has been ongoing, the piece will come to fruition during our 2026 summer residency at Art Farm in Nebraska, with a following debut and workshop at Peñasco Theater in New Mexico. This spring we are raising funds for the summer to sustain our practice at Art Farm and further develop the show. This funding will support material costs for our large scale puppets, travel expenses, gas, plane tickets, and room and board.

All of the funding thus far has come out of our personal shoe-string budgets and now we are asking our communities for support to get the show on the road! This initial development and performance is just the beginning, we are planning US tours in the years to come and hope to see you there as a volunteer, a workshop participant, or an audience member.

We promise to bring some ragtag skills, silliness and camaraderie everywhere we land with our traveling show!

With love,
the wandering womb collective
