Why we need your help?

The REELise Film Festival provides a nationwide platform to create and showcase youth stories about navigating digital life. It's designed to develop confidence, digital creativity and leadership skills while broadening public awareness about cyberbullying and other impacts of online life on youth mental health, to drive connection, empathy and understanding and change attitudes and behaviours online.

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, we are keen to bring the festival back this year, better than ever! However, our venue hire cost this year hit us by surprise, with the cost increasing three-fold compared to 2019!

Your support will enable us to afford the venue hire cost and the key elements of creating a vibrant community festival experience.

The REELise Film Festival:

All films are created on smartphones or tablets by young people 10 to 18 years, turning tools of cyberbullying into positive instruments of change and making filmmaking accessible for young people from diverse backgrounds around Australia.

It takes courage to share your story and publicly display your work and we like to honour and celebrate these achievements with an exciting community event.

After two years of COVID impacts and virtual festivals, we want to return to the thrill of young people from around Australia seeing their work screen in VMAX at Event Cinemas in Sydney in October 2022 and providing a fun, VIP red carpet networking experience that they will always remember.

That experience has been life-changing for many of our filmmakers who developed self-belief and found their voice and whose mental health and life outlook improved.

The impact of the festival

This is what involvement in the festival meant to Niris Kaya, an immigrant from Turkey who was severely bullied for many years at primary and high school:

"I don't know where I'd be without REELise, certainly not in uni. I would have dropped out at 16. When I got involved with REELise, I was at a really dark place in my life where I couldn't see a future. I wouldn't be where I am without REELise. I wouldn't have the confidence, I wouldn't have the courage. I wouldn't have the life experience that I've had. I want other kids to experience all the joy I got out of REELise and all the excitement and all of the thrills. It's just incredible."

How will we use the money?

The money we raise here will go towards a suite of things to make the film festival a memorable experience for our kids and will include:

In 2020 and 2021, we couldn't hold the festival because of COVID-19 but this year, we are back! We want to bring the magic back to help young people have a wonderful experience, feel valued and see their films on the big screen!

Our digital world presents enormous opportunities and risks for young people and significantly impacts their wellbeing. So we build digital life skills and values. We empower youth voices at the REELise Film Festival and on our social platforms and we support young people to use their digital tools and platforms to create a positive future for themselves and those that follow them.
