My name is Francesca, and I’m writing this with a heavy heart.
My brother Stefano has been living in Perth, Australia for almost a year, chasing his dream and enjoying what he described as the best time of his life. Sadly, on August 10th, everything changed. While he was on his way home, Stefano had a serious accident. He fell from an outdoor staircase, approximately 4 meters high, and remained on the ground for over an hour before being found and taken to the hospital.
It was a sudden and unfortunate event, one of those moments that can turn a life upside down in just a few seconds.
He was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital and underwent emergency brain surgery. He remained in an induced coma for two weeks. Those were the longest, most painful days of our lives.
As soon as we got the news, my mother and I flew from Italy to be with him. During our time here, we’ve met many incredibly kind and supportive people, strangers who offered us words of comfort, helped us with accommodation and transportation, and reminded us that compassion still exists in this world.
Today, Stefano is finally awake, but the journey ahead is long and uncertain. He’s currently facing several serious consequences from the accident: limited mobility on the left side of his body, memory loss, and language difficulties. He needs constant care and intensive rehabilitation.
We come from a beautiful region of Italy called Brianza. Our greatest wish now is to bring Stefano back home, where he can recover surrounded by the love of his family, his friends, and his community. Unfortunately, the cost of a medical flight and all the care he requires is something we cannot afford on our own.
This is why we’ve created this GoFundMe, to ask for your help in bringing Stefano home, once doctors say he is stable enough to travel.
Your donation will go directly towards the cost of:
- A medical repatriation flight with specialized assistance
- Medical equipment and support during the journey
- Stefano's hospitalization at Royal Perth Hospital
We know that times are tough for many, but even the smallest contribution would mean the world to us. Nothing could have prepared us for this tragedy. Not mentally, not emotionally, and certainly not financially.
From the bottom of our hearts: thank you. For reading, for sharing, for donating, for being there.
With gratitude,
Francesca Amila
