The media is lying to everyone.

I’m Catie Laffoon and I’ve been on the ground in LA doing everything I can to protect my community and bring awareness to the entire country every single day since ICE invaded on June 6th. The truth of what is happening in our country is not being reported honestly by any major news outlet. I’ve watched it with my own eyes here in LA. We've seen it in Minneapolis and Chicago - there's a reason you aren't hearing about Memphis and New Orleans.

I’ve worked in the film industry for 20+ years and I’ve seen how the media has framed this moment. They have left out crucial information and do not provide all the facts and context for the images they show us. They report without question the lies the Trump administration spews when we can all see the truth with our own eyes. The only way we stand a chance to save ourselves and this country is for us to know the truth of what is happening on the ground in various cites. Government officials are giving great speeches on tv but behind the scenes they are selling us out. The people on the front lines are now the press. We are the most honest way of getting real information out when it’s vital people know the truth.

A lot of you have asked how you can support me and what I’m doing. I don’t work alone. I’m a part of a team of people on the ground. We all work together to support one another in our common goal of bringing the truth to the American people. We gather information and investigate so we can put together videos to inform the public. We organize, amplify calls to action, and raise money to send to people around the country to help set up front lines in communities when ICE invades. We have sent people to DC and currently have people on the ground in MN. This work is full time. I can tell you with complete honesty that this is all we do all day every day and somehow we still have to figure out how to keep a roof over our heads. Nobody sleeps. This is a massive struggle and we’ve been going full tilt for 7 months now. We need help in order to keep bringing you information so you can dispel the lies from the truth of what’s happening in our cities.

The money raised in this GoFundMe will support many activists on the ground risking their safety to fight this fascist regime and report the truth. These people send me tips and information. I can’t do what I do without every person in this fight and I want to help them. The funds will help cover rent when activists fall short, buy groceries when they need help, pay their cell phone bills, metro cards, plane tickets to get to a new front line, things like that. We will need legal funds as people are regularly arrested for being witnesses to ICE activities. We need to pay medical bills if they’re injured. Depending on how much we raise we can fund more trips to places like the state capitol where we can lobby our state lawmakers or other actions that require funds. The money will go to emergency vendor buyouts. Every part of this work costs money and we’ve spent every dollar of our savings to do this. Now we need your help. 

I will post receipts so that you can see where the money is going and you can follow along. I will keep people’s names anonymous for their safety. The way we defeat this terror is by coming together in community and supporting each other. I will do this work until I no longer can in one way or another. I’m hoping with your help we can keep bringing you breaking stories and keep standing up for our communities.
