On August 27, 2026, our family lost my grandfather, Wilbur “Pap” Dean.

Pap spent his entire life taking care of the people around him. He was a provider, a protector, a problem-solver, and the person our family could always depend on. Now, in the wake of losing him, our family is facing a reality none of us were fully prepared for.

My grandmother, Lillian, and my aunt, Tammy, are both disabled and will need to leave the home they shared with Pap in Hyattsville and relocate to our home in Hughesville so they can be surrounded by family and have the support and assistance they need moving forward.

Our goal is simple: **to make this transition as safe, comfortable, and dignified as possible for them.**

To properly accommodate their needs, we need to make several changes to our home, including remodeling a portion of the first floor to provide accessible living space and access to a shower. We will also need new beds and bedroom furniture, household necessities, moving assistance, and other modifications that come with bringing two households together and ensuring they have a safe and comfortable place to call home.

There are also funeral and final expenses associated with losing Pap. Any assistance with those costs would certainly help, but they are not the primary reason we're asking for support.

Our family changed overnight.

Pap spent his life making sure everyone else was taken care of. He was the kind of man who would genuinely give someone the shirt off his back and expect absolutely nothing in return.

I can't replace what he provided to our family, and I could never replace him. **But I can make sure the people he loved are taken care of.**

That's what we're going to do.

Donations will help us prepare our home, relocate my grandmother and aunt, provide the things they'll need, make the necessary accommodations for their disabilities, and ease some of the unexpected expenses surrounding Pap's passing.

We never imagined we'd find ourselves asking for help like this. Unfortunately, this is the hand we've been dealt, and we're going to do everything we can to make the best of it, keep our family together, and give my grandmother and aunt the security, support, and dignity they deserve during an incredibly difficult transition.
