On Friday, November 14th, our family’s life changed in an instant. My parents and my sister, María Paz, were unexpectedly detained during what was supposed to be a simple, routine ICE check-in.

They entered the U.S. legally under parole 212(d)(5) and have always followed every rule and requirement. They hold valid documentation, work permits, driver’s licenses—everything they have ever been asked for. They have no criminal history, no traffic issues, nothing that justifies what is happening to them. This detention feels deeply unfair, and it has left our family heartbroken.

My parents are the kind of people who immediately earn the love of anyone who meets them. They are warm, hardworking, humble, and incredibly kind. They have built a life of honesty and respect everywhere they go. Neighbors, friends, coworkers—everyone around them knows them as people who give more than they receive, who help others without hesitation, and who always put family and community first. To see them going through this is something we never imagined.

And my sister, María Paz… she is just 17. She will be turning 18 while detained. She is a bright, compassionate young woman, already admitted to San Antonio College and on track to graduate with honors in mid-2026. She has worked so hard for her future, and she deserves the chance to continue building her dreams, not to spend her birthday behind walls she shouldn’t be in.

Before this, their next court date was scheduled for 2029. After the detention, a new hearing was suddenly set for November 25th at 9 a.m. We have been able to speak with them briefly, and while they remain strong, this has shaken all of us deeply.

We are now trying to raise funds to cover the legal process to request bond and possibly file a habeas corpus petition. Although we already paid $7,500 for each asylum application (three in total), our lawyer explained that because this is a separate process, the new legal fees are $3,000 per person—a total of $9,000.

And this does not include the ICE processing fees or the bonds themselves. With no criminal record, we hope the bond amounts will be reasonable, but right now the average is around $5,000 per person—approximately $15,000 in total.

We have access to my parents’ savings, but it is not enough to cover all these unexpected expenses. That is why we are turning to our community and asking for help.

We just want them home.

We want our family together again.

We want my parents to return to the community that loves them and that they have always served with warmth and generosity.

Any support—whether financial or a simple prayer—means more than we can express. We believe God will guide the judge’s heart, and He will give my parents and María Paz the strength they need to endure this moment.

El viernes 14 de noviembre, la vida de nuestra familia cambió por completo. Mis papás y mi hermana, María Paz, fueron detenidos inesperadamente durante lo que debía ser una cita rutinaria con ICE.

Ellos ingresaron legalmente a Estados Unidos bajo el parole 212(d)(5) y siempre han cumplido absolutamente todo lo que se les ha pedido. Tienen toda su documentación en regla: permisos de trabajo, licencias de conducir, identificación… jamás han tenido antecedentes criminales, ni siquiera una multa de tránsito. Nada de lo que han hecho justifica lo que están viviendo. Esta detención se siente profundamente injusta y nos ha dejado con el corazón destrozado.

Mis papás son personas que se ganan el cariño de todos. Son trabajadores incansables, nobles, generosos, siempre agradecidos y siempre dispuestos a ayudar. Han construido su vida aquí con esfuerzo y respeto. Vecinos, amigos, compañeros de trabajo—todos hablan de su calidez, de su humildad, de la forma en que ayudan sin pedir nada a cambio. Verlos pasar por esto es algo que jamás imaginamos.

Y mi hermana, María Paz… tiene solo 17 años. Cumplirá 18 estando detenida. Es una joven brillante, dulce, trabajadora, ya admitida en San Antonio College y próxima a graduarse con honores a mediados del 2026. Ha luchado muchísimo por su futuro, y no merece pasar su cumpleaños ni un solo día en un lugar donde no debería estar.

Antes de todo esto, su próxima audiencia estaba programada para el 2029. Después de ser detenidos, les pusieron una nueva fecha para el 25 de noviembre a las 9 a.m. Hemos podido hablar con ellos unos momentos; están tratando de mantenerse fuertes, pero esta situación nos tiene muy afectados.

Estamos recaudando fondos para cubrir el proceso legal de solicitud de fianza y la posible presentación de un habeas corpus. Aunque ya pagamos $7,500 por cada aplicación de asilo (tres en total), el abogado nos explicó que este proceso es completamente diferente y requiere $3,000 por persona—en total $9,000.

A eso se le suman los costos de ICE y las posibles fianzas. Debido a que no tienen ningún antecedente, esperamos que los montos no sean demasiado altos, pero el promedio actual es de $5,000 por persona, unos $15,000 en total.

Tenemos acceso a los ahorros de mis papás, pero no es suficiente para cubrir todo lo que se viene. Por eso, con toda humildad, recurrimos a nuestra comunidad y pedimos ayuda.

Solo queremos que regresen a casa.

Queremos estar juntos nuevamente.

Queremos que mis papás vuelvan al lugar donde todos los quieren y donde siempre han dado lo mejor de sí.

Cualquier ayuda—sea económica o una simple oración—significa más de lo que podemos expresar. Confiamos en que Dios tocará el corazón del juez y dará fortaleza y resiliencia a mis papás y a María Paz en este momento tan duro.
