On Monday, our dad travelled to Corfu, Greece. Unfortunately, on the very first night, he was involved in a terrible accident.
Dad was walking within a walkway when a car came around the corner. He stepped out of the way to avoid being hit and, in doing so, fell down a sheer drop.
Our brother, seeing what had happened, tried to get down to Dad to help him and, in the process, fell himself.
They were not found until hours later, both unconscious, and were taken to hospital.
Our brother suffered a bleed on the brain. Thankfully, after treatment and monitoring, he has now been given the all-clear to fly home.
Dad has suffered a broken left arm and a severely broken left leg, with open fractures where the bones came through the skin. He has already undergone one operation in Greece and requires further surgery.
While we are incredibly grateful that our brother has been cleared to travel, the nature of Dad’s injuries makes getting him home much more complicated.
The hospital has advised that Dad can only travel back to the UK lying completely flat and accompanied by a medical team. This means we cannot simply book him onto a normal flight home. We need to arrange specialist medical repatriation to get him back safely.
Our priority now is to bring Dad home, where he can continue the treatment, surgery and recovery he needs with his family around him.
The cost of specialist medical repatriation is far beyond what we can manage as a family, which is why we are asking for help.
We are raising funds towards the cost of the specialist transport and medical team required to safely bring Dad home from Corfu. Any money raised will go towards getting him back to the UK and costs directly associated with his repatriation and care.
After an unimaginable few days, all we want is to have Dad safely back home, surrounded by the people who love him, so he can begin his recovery.
We completely understand that not everyone is in a position to donate. Even sharing this page would mean more to our family than we can say.
Every donation, no matter how small, takes us one step closer to bringing Dad home.
Thank you so much for reading, donating and sharing. ❤️
