MEDICAL FUND FOR NORA FOULKS
Donation protected
Updae: We just wanted to share an update on Miss Nora. We are so happy to be settling in at home. God has blessed us emensely during our adoption journey and we can't praise him enough for all he's done for our family. We would also like to take this time to thank each and everyone of you that has chosen to cover us in prayer, give us words or encouragement, love, and support(financial or otherwise) during our adoption. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We gave started Nora's medical journey now. Wow. Is all we can say, to say we gave one strong little girl is an understatement. She will be undergoing heart surgery May 28th at Vanderbilt Childrens to help repair her heart issues and help with damage that has been done from going so long without speciality care. She will also be having seeing an Endocrinologist, Ear, Nose, and Throat, GI, Nutritionist, qnd Nuerologist in the coming months.
We will also be traveling to Vanderbilt to see the interdisciplinary team at the Down Syndrome Clinic as well as seeing the International Adoption program clinic while we are there. She will be attending a host of therapies that include Physical Therapu, Occupational therapy, Speech Therapy, and Feeding Therapy.
We are so blessed to have her on a private insurance however as you van imagine with all she has going on medically our health insurance won't even come close to covering all her needs. We will have a host of medical expenses to pay out of pocket as well as significant medical bills.
Nora does not qualify for any assistance through disability, Medicare, or Medicaid due to our family income being over rhe amount the programs allow to qualify for these programs even though she meets all medical requirements. We do qualify for a federal program called the Katie Becketr program and are already enrolled but we have to wait for a spot to open for her and currently there are 250 kids in front of her.
We have had people ask how they can help? So, we have updated the gofundme page to create a medical fund for Nora. The proceeds will help us offset medical expenses we pay for that are not covered by her insurance, assist with medical bills and travel expenses to receive her medical care.
The other money that was raised we used to pay her medical insurance premium as the money did not go into our account until we were back home from Kyrgyzstan. We always want to be transparent with people who donate to know where the funds that are donated go toward.
Please if you feel lead to donate please do so using this link. We appreciate each and everyone of you. We will be traveling to Vanderbilt(4 hours away from home) May 27th for Nora's heart Surgery on May 28th so any funds raised currently will fo toward her surgery and travel.
We ask most of all that you keep Nora covered in prayers.
Gary, Christie, Nora
Hello, we are Gary & Christie Foulks. As most of you know, we have adopted our daughter, Nora Annalise Foulks, from Kyrgyzstan, Asia. We arrived in the country on January 15th to attend court and complete our adoption. We had our first court hearing on January 20th, and our adoption was granted. However, there was a 30-day hold period per Hague accredited standards. On the last day of our hold period, the prosecutor filed an appeal. We stayed in the country for our appeal hearing, which was on March 19th. We won our appeal hearing and picked up our daughter forever from the orphanage on January 20th. We proceeded with the last steps and started to get her medical appointments and lab work. Passport, new birth certificate, and our Foreign Supervisor provider, Chinara, prepared everything for our US Embassy interview appointment on March 28th. We attended the appointment and were told we would receive the visa on Tuesday as the Embassy was closed on Monday. We have since been told every day that they can't release her visa till they get guidance from the Department of State, and on other days they say it's USCIS they need guidance from. So, who knows. I don't even think they know, to tell you the truth. They have sent one email this whole time to the Department of State. They are doing no follow-up calls or emails to get this matter handled in a timely manner; their stance on this is we just simply wait. Time isn't on our side as our daughter Nora has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome and requires heart surgery to repair her heart condition. She also has restrictive growth; she is 4 years old and only wears 24 months in infant clothes and size 4 infant shoes. She needs to get home to receive the surgery, medical care, and therapies.
On April 15th, we will have been in Kyrgyzstan for 3 months. With that being said, we have had many unexpected expenses. We had to get a visa, which was over four hundred dollars alone. Then, we had to register in the country, extend our stay, pay for more notarization and translation fees, and of course, extend our apartment for this extensive stay. This is the bare minimum of expenses we have had to cover, plus paying all expenses back home as well.
Gary's work has been so gracious and paid Gary his salary the whole time we have been in the country, but with as long as we've been here, finances are hard considering we are covering two places of living.
When we get home, and that's a BIG when... We will be immediately getting Nora's heart repair and other medical treatments, medicine, and therapies she needs.
We didn't want to have to set up a GoFundMe; however, due to our circumstances, we have chosen to swallow our pride and set up one. So, if anyone feels led to donate to help our family while here in the country, to get back home, and to start Nora's medical care, we would be forever grateful to you for your generosity. If you can't give, it is 100 percent okay. Please, we ask everyone to keep us covered in prayer during this time and that we would get to come home soon.
