Our beautiful 7-year-old Lola is currently fighting for her life in intensive veterinary care, and we are reaching out for help to bring her home.
Lola’s Journey: A Survivor From the Start
Lola’s life hasn’t been easy. Born deaf in May 2018, she had a difficult and unstable start to life, being passed between various families before she finally found her way to her "forever home" with us in October 2018. After searching for safety, she became the heart of our family—a resilient, loving girl who has already overcome so much.
The Battle with Leptospirosis
On Saturday, December 20th, our world was turned upside down. Lola was rushed to the vets as she was poorly and diagnosed with Leptospirosis, a brutal and often fatal bacterial infection.
Many people don't realize that Leptospirosis can be picked up almost anywhere—it's often spread through the urine of wildlife (like rats or foxes) and can live in soil or stagnant water found on everyday walks. Shockingly, Lola was fully up to date with all of her vaccinations. Unfortunately, while vaccines provide vital protection, they only cover a few specific strains of the bacteria, and Lola was unlucky enough to contract a strain she wasn't protected against.
Lola’s Fight for Life
The infection has been devastating. Lola has been at the vet's since she fell ill on the 20th of December enduring endless testing and three life-saving blood transfusions to keep her stable so far. Her body is fighting an incredible battle against an infection that attacks the kidneys and liver.
The vets have hope, and so do we. Lola is a warrior, but the costs of her round-the-clock intensive veterinary care, emergency transfusions, medication and specialist monitoring are racking up quickly, already exceeding £4,000.
How You Can Help
We want to give Lola every possible chance to survive this so she can spend the New Year where she belongs: safe, warm, and loved at home.
Donate: Any amount, no matter how small, goes directly toward her medical bills and continued life-saving treatment at Animals Trust in Barnsley.
Share: Please share Lola’s story. Spreading awareness about this disease could help save another dog’s life.
Kindness: As a deaf dog, Lola "feels" our love through touch and presence. We are doing everything we can to let her know we are right there with her.
Thank you for helping us fight for Lola. She has spent her life overcoming the odds, and with your help, we know she can do it one more time.
We are thankful that the vets and veterinary nurses are doing all they can and more.
