"Help Us Bring Hope and Healing to a Brave Pup in Need!"

Rosie, 5-year-old little black miniature Poodle, went missing Wednesday 7th August 2024 in Ashridge Estate, Berkhamsted after being spooked and with a carer whilst her family were on their summer holidays.
The alert was raised with many people and charitable organisations rallying around to trying to gain a sighting of Rosie, supporting the family who had cut the holiday short to return and search for their beloved baby Rosie.
Hardly any sightings and no results from the drone search carried out on Saturday 10th August lead to increasing amounts of worry, especially in the two days of high temperature.
Fast forward to Monday – a dog captured on a camera in situ at the lost site…..could it be her?
Trying not to get too eager but holding hope saw Tuesday morning bringing some possible exciting news – a dog had been found and taken in!!
Rosie had been found, 7 days later – it was a miracle……
However, poor little Rosie was completely covered in maggots so swiftly taken to a vet – fluids, shaving, antibiotics and then an Xray….the little girl was found to have a shattered pelvis.
Rosie is currently under the care of The Royal Veterinary College having emergency surgery to try and help this little girl – the costs are estimated to be more than £10,000.
Thank you for your help – it means so very much to all involved.

Full story below:

Rosie is a 5-year-old little black miniature Poodle. Rosie was being cared for by a family friend while her family went on a summer holiday to Cornwall with their 4 children. Whilst on a walk, on Wednesday 7th August 2024 in Ashridge Estate, Berkhamsted, Rosie encountered a large group of runners on the track she was on, she cowered and stood still and it is understood that she was caught under the feet of some of the runners, she then bolted, and the carer lost sight of her.

Rosie's owners cut short their holiday and returned to Berkhamsted to start a thorough search for her. There were a few sightings the next day, Thursday 8th, by horse riders in woodland quite a distance away. Rosie bolted when she was spotted. There were more sightings giving hope to Lianna & Andy, only to find that the little black Poodle being sighted had an owner nearby and was also called Rosie! The family were exhausted, trying to work, look after the children on school holidays and search for Rosie. Lianna didn't even have time to eat, she was devastated and lost without her little black shadow by her side.

DogLost and Help Them Home were contacted, with DogLost providing a print off poster and advice and Help Them Home, cameras, and advice, both gave social media coverage. Thermal Drone Support Bedfordshire were contacted on Saturday by a mutual friend who searched vast areas of sightings with no luck. Posters were redone and 400 copies ready to be distributed by friends. Whatsapp group chats were set up supporting Lianna & Andy. With no sightings, it really was a waiting game until Rosie showed herself again.

On Monday 12th August at 2 p.m. a camera set at the lost site captured a little black dog eating at the food station. Lianna went to the spot but no Rosie, she left more worn clothing of hers and more food. The image on the camera didn't confirm that it was Rosie, but it was 32 degrees at 2 p.m. and surely no one would be walking their dog in that heat? It must be Rosie. Hope was raised when it had been at its lowest because of the temperatures we have had and Rosie needing to find water to survive.

The still image from the camera was looked at again first thing on Tuesday 13th August and it was thought that the dog on the camera was a male but to save more turmoil to Lianna she was not told that it was likely not Rosie. Just before 9 a.m. Whatsapp group chats started to ping with news that someone had found a little black dog that could be Rosie! Andy travelled to check and yes, finally, there was Rosie! A long, heart-breaking 7 days away from her little friend Ralph and the rest of her family had come to an end, Rosie was safe and on her way home.
After 7 days of an absolute nightmare for Lianna & Andy, it was over. Rosie was home and so excited to be back with Ralph and the family. 5 minutes after the emotional reunion, Lianna realised that there were maggots crawling on Rosie, in her eyes and all over her body. Rosie might have been found, but she was not out of the woods yet. Andy took her straight to the vets who even when it was explained that Rosie, cradled in Andy’s arms had been missing for 7 days and was crawling with maggots, the vet practise could not see her until 3 p.m! Suffering, dehydrated & exhausted, requiring urgent medical attention, Andy drove to another vet who saw her immediately. Rosie was shaved, bathed, given antibiotics and put on a drip. Currently there are no sign of maggots having burrowed into little Rosie's skin. Whatsapp chats were updated and a huge sigh of relief all round. Rosie was not out of the woods but there was a ray of light. That light went out as quickly as it came. Rosie was X rayed. The X ray found that her pelvis was shattered, and a back leg was broken! We do not know if her injuries were caused when she was caught up with the runners or if she has been hit by a car, certainly, if she was hit by a car, the driver did not stop and report the accident. The vet believes fly strike occurred because she had been sitting in her own urine. That could mean that she was injured so badly soon after she disappeared and has been suffering for days, alone, miles from home and almost 9 miles away from where she was being walked on Wednesday 7th August. How did she even get so far away? No one will ever know how a little black Poodle called Rosie has ended up as she is today.
The vet practise referred Rosie to The Royal Veterinary College who have advised that Rosie's treatment and care is likely to be in the region of £10,000. They requested £5,000 on account. Rosie is not insured. The family have borrowed £5,000 to start Rosie's treatment. As this is being written it is unknown if any operation will be 100% successful, but Rosie cannot be left in agony and untreated. She is having a 3d scan and various other scans and pain relief while the RVC determine the best plan of action. This plan of action may mean the total bill for Rosie will exceed £10,000. We really do not know.
Rosie has been through enough, the family have been through enough, they have shown such gratitude toward the community and support groups that have helped them and are embarrassed to be in this position. As dog lovers, we know how we would feel if we were in the same situation. This fundraising page is for Rosie and to offer some degree of relief to Lianna and Andy, financially. The funds will go directly to the family who will pay the RVC. We know it is a huge amount of money to raise, but we know that we can all do it.
In any case, it's a situation where there's relief that Rosie is found, but there are still hurdles to overcome before she is truly safe and back home with her loving family.
