- He is a 4 year old, deaf child. He has mild cerebral palsy and is living in a special needs institution in Eastern Europe. - Disabled children in institutions often face neglect, abuse, starvation, and torture. - Journalists have referred to these institutions as "death camps for children" - He was transferred out of his baby orphanage 6 months ago to one of the worst orphanages in Eastern Europe, and is now starving to death. He is down to 18lbs. He can no longer stand, and the latest video the agency got us, shows he has started rocking every time he is put down, a sign of serious neglect. - Isaiah needs access to medical care, therapies, and a family.
We have made the decision to adopt him. We need to bring him home urgently. It is going to cost us $30,000 - $40,000. Normally International adoptions take 1 - 2 years to fully fundraise for and complete. Isaiah will not live that long. Our agency says they can have him here within 6 months if we can provide the funds. We cannot do it alone in time. Please help us bring Isaiah home in time to save his life.
We plan to withdraw the money from this gofundme account, as we need it. A few of our larger fee's are due next week, and thanks to your generosity we can pay them now! Luckily withdrawing from the gofundme, does not affect the progress meter that is displayed on our campaign.
We want to be transparent and accountable to you about where your donations are going. We have set up a new bank account just for these funds. We don't want your donations going in our personal bank accounts, we feel it would be to hard to keep track of.
I plan to put a post up on our blog, where we will keep track and update our actual expenses as they happen. So you can see our progress!
Below is a list of the cost estimates that we received from our adoption agency.
$550 - Agency Registration Fee $2000 - Private Home Study (thankfully CAS released our home study from Danika's adoption to our Private Adoption Practitioner. We now only have to do a homestudy update, which is 2 meetings. It will be completed on Aug 23rd, and we are hopeful we will be charged less because its just an update! $200 - Fingerprinting and Interpol Reports fee $5900 - Our Canadian Adoption Agency's fee. $1000 - 4 post adoption reports are required by the Country Isaiah is in. They have to be prepaid. $15500 - Foreign Source Fee - The foreign source fee includes: expenses for translation of all adoption documents, registration with the Central Adoption Authority in the Eastern European Country Isaiah lives in, obtaining the legal documents of the child, preparation of the proposal package of the child, translation, notarization and authentication of child’s documents (adoption decree, new birth certificate, passport, Canadian visa etc), lawyer’s fees and disbursements, Court expenses, Government taxes, coordination services etc. Travel, accommodation and immigration expenses are not included in the above fees. $600 - Visa Interview - I believe this is done in country when we pick him up. $200 - medical exam, again when we pick him up, in country before we can fly him back here. $750 - Apostille of documents (I don't know what this means lol) $2500 - First Trip Airfare. His country requires a 7 day initial trip with 5 full days spent with him to bond. We will only be sending Serena, we cannot justify paying 2 plane tickets for this. We will be covering the costs of her hotel, meals, expenses out of our personal accounts. $6250 - Second Trip Airfare - 14 days - 6 weeks after the first trip, both parents are required to come and pick him up. We will be paying 2 round trip tickets, and 1 one-way ticket home for Isaiah. This is a best guess, based on current rates, we are praying the rates go down. We are required to be in country for 10 days. We will be paying hotel/meals/expenses for this trip out of our personal accounts for this trip as well.
Again, these are estimates from our agency, but we are committed to be as transparent as possible, through the blog, about our actual costs. If by some miracle there are any funds left in the account when Isaiah comes home, we will donate them to https://reecesrainbow.org/
This is an amazing adoption support that offers grants to families in the US who are adopting Special Needs Orphans. We wish we could have worked with this organization ourselves, but we are in Canada.
