For many in vulnerable communities, these aren’t just seasonal annoyances - they’re a constant threat to health and well-being.
Right now, Oregon is in the middle of a clean air crisis:
- Ranked 5th most polluted state in the U.S.
- 4 Oregon cities among the nation’s 25 worst for air quality
- Wildfire smoke and pollution hitting harder every year - especially for low-income families who have the fewest resources to protect themselves.
And it’s not just local - it’s global:
- Air pollution causes 7 million premature deaths annually
- $8.1 trillion in healthcare costs worldwide
- 9 out of 10 of these deaths happen in low-income communities.
At BetAIR, we believe that everyone should be able to breathe clean air, no matter their income or background.
We’re a youth-led nonprofit based in Oregon, designing smart, low-cost air filters that remove wildfire smoke, allergens, and other harmful pollutants. By combining innovative technology with community action, we provide affordable air filtration kits to vulnerable families in wildfire-affected areas.
So far, we’ve donated air filters to households in Portland, East County, La Pine, Prineville, Sisters, and Warm Springs in Oregon. But that’s only the beginning.
Oregon’s 2025 fire season is here - and it has already had a huge impact on the community:
- 20,300 acres burned in 7 large fires
- The Rowena Fire scorched 3,500 acres near Columbia River Gorge, forcing evacuations
- 2024’s season burned 1.5 million acres - the most in history
The time for action is now.
