Help Us Bring Cheryl Home
Hello everyone,
As hard as this is for our family to share, we’ve been left with limited resources and few options but to reach out to our beautiful community for support.
On the 10th of March, 2025, our much-loved wife, mother, and grandmother Cheryl, 67, suffered a serious fall resulting in a non-displaced fracture. Since then, she has spent the last 40 days in The Prince Charles Hospital and is now at Ashworth Rehabilitation House.
Cheryl’s health challenges didn’t begin here. In 2011, she suffered a major stroke which severely impacted her mobility and speech, leaving one side of her body affected. On top of this, Cheryl battles daily with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoporosis, and Diabetes. Despite all this, she has remained strong, supported closely by her loving husband David.
David, 69, is Cheryl’s full-time carer and has devoted his life to caring for her and their grandchildren. Sadly, over the past year, David has faced serious heart issues and other complications of his own, including arthritis and diabetes. Despite his own health battles, his greatest wish is to bring Cheryl home where she can be surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Being confined to a small room away from home, Cheryl’s mental health has taken a toll. She misses her husband, children, and especially her grandchildren who give her the strength to keep going.
This is where we need your help.
Cheryl cannot be discharged from the rehab facility until essential home modifications are completed. The safest and most practical option is to convert the downstairs area of the family home into a self-contained room with a toilet and shower. This will allow Cheryl to live comfortably without needing to use the stairs, which are now unsafe for her.
We have already begun renovations, but sadly, we’ve run out of funds to finish the work. We’ve submitted an emergency change of circumstances to the NDIS, but as many know, this process can take six months or more — and even then, there’s no guarantee of approval or adequate funding.
So today, we’re asking — if you’re in a position to help, whether through a donation (even $5 makes a difference), donated materials, or skilled time, please consider supporting us in getting Cheryl Home. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this post means the world to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can offer.
With love and gratitude,
The Chadwick Family.
