The Story
After the murder of her political activist father, Nikki takes drastic measures against the man she believes is responsible. This leaves her brother, who, unlike her, had refused to follow in their father's footsteps, with a difficult decision. A film that explores activism and what it takes to keep hope alive, shot on 16mm film.
Why this film?
Political activism is a never-ending fight for many around the world, and for most of us, it’s not a choice; it's a battle for survival that can't be fought alone. Burning Alive is a film that explores these themes in the form of a drama/thriller. It is a film that is meant to inspire conversations about activism, grief, and the difficult choices we have to make when we lose faith in the systems meant to protect us, and perhaps most importantly, what it takes to keep hope alive.
The decision to shoot on film was more than an aesthetic choice for us. With the introduction of artificial intelligence in films and the threat it brings, my peers and I have felt a growing push toward analog filmmaking. Shooting on film requires planning, patience, and most importantly, intentionality – qualities we believe are crucial to telling an authentic story like Burning Alive. Additionally, shooting this project on film will allow our team of young filmmakers to work with a medium that has become increasingly inaccessible due to its high cost.
