Good news — we're moving to a better place!
Bad news — we have to pay rent for both places for a few months!
WORST news — and we have to break our lease!
There is a persistent (though thankfully minor) mold issue at our current apartment. Management has been very swift with half-assed responses which is why the issue has been persistent! While we can feel this beginning to affect our health, we are mostly concerned about our little idiot, Oliphaunt, "Ollie" for short, pictured here:
So, we began looking for a new home. By sheer luck we found a great place at a great price in a quiet neighborhood and we found it much sooner than we ever expected. We couldn't risk losing out, so we jumped on it.
But now we have to break our current lease. This involves giving them 60 days notice. Doing so will immediately trigger a $2,600 penalty. We will also have to pay rent for those 60 days, which is basically another $2,600 on top of paying for our new place.
We're looking for $5,500 to cover the penalties, extra rent, and whatever made up nickel-and-dime nonsense the landlord will inevitably pull when we leave. If we get anything more than that, it will all go to associated costs that arise from moving out and cleaning up.
We are well aware that Things Are Awful right now and there are people with far more urgent needs than ours. So, y'know, don't feel bad or weird about not helping out. It's fine!
But if you ever thought, "I should toss 'em a few bucks one of these days," after reading an Atomic Robo or an 8-bit Theater," well, now would be the perfect time to make good!
And, more importantly, you'd be helping Ollie!
As you can see he was very upset to learn that his stack of boxes will be going away.
