Help Students Bike Coast to Coast Across America

Donation protected
I am a student in the Princeton Class of 2024. I will be biking across the United States with a group of other Princeton students this summer. We’ll be riding from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Coast on trails along the 36th parallel near Route 66 over 40 days.

Our aim is to capture the gradient of culture shift moving from the urban coasts into the rural heartland of America. We’ll be documenting the stories of the people we meet in each town we cross through as part of a pioneering effort to share Americans' stories from the seat of a bike. We'll be compiling all the stories we receive into a book to share with anyone interested in the vast array of experiences and perspectives across America. We are reaching out to alumni to help sponsor this project.

This year has been the most politically and socially tense of our lifetime. It has highlighted the mutual suspicion and anxiety across cultural, economic, and racial lines in the US. The vast differences in perspectives and experiences throughout the US have never been more apparent.  We understand that every town in the US has a different feel - different industries, people, cultures, difficulties, and joys.  We want to take the time to get to know these places - and we’ll have plenty of time to do so from our slow bikes. We want to see how culture shifts as we pedal along. Through this journey, we hope to gain a better sense of the state of the nation at this transformative moment in time, putting our individual backgrounds in conversation with the experiences of the people we meet along the way.

The cost of this trip will break down into five categories: food, living, equipment,  safety supplies, and publishing.  We were hoping to get funding from the University, but due to restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic, all funding related to travel was suspended. Every small contribution helps. We truly appreciate any support you can give.

Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. If you're interested in the trip and want to stay updated on our progress from the training and preparation process to the journey itself, just contact us with the "Contact" button below, and we would be happy to send you weekly updates.
