Help Us Be There for Our Daughter Myaih During a Medical Crisis
Our world has been turned upside down.
Our beautiful daughter Myaih Kesby, just 19 years old, is currently critically unwell in ICU following a sudden and devastating neurological emergency. As her parents, we are asking for support so we can step away from work and be fully present by her side while she fights to recover.
Only a week ago, Myaih was a happy, healthy young woman building her future. She works full-time in a traineeship with Valley Industries, is creative and kind, and has always loved drama, art, and expressing herself through creativity. She was so proud to receive her provisional driver’s licence just three weeks ago, and heartbreakingly, her licence card arrived in the mail today, while she lies unconscious in intensive care.
Last Thursday, Myaih suffered a sudden tonic–clonic (grand mal) seizure at work. Paramedics arrived quickly and she was taken to hospital, where she initially received excellent care and was admitted for observation. She was expected to come home the following day.
Instead, Myaih went on to have multiple further seizures, rapidly deteriorating into what doctors have described as status epilepticus, a prolonged and life-threatening state of ongoing seizure activity. She is now in ICU, requiring continuous oxygen support, on four anti-seizure medications, and continues to seize despite intensive treatment. She is mostly unconscious, even without sedation.
Despite extensive testing, doctors still do not know what is causing her seizures or neurological decline.
We have done everything possible to advocate for Myaih to receive the specialist care she urgently needs. We have:
• Repeatedly requested transfer to a tertiary hospital
• Activated the REACH escalation protocol
• Sought external consultation with John Hunter Hospital neurology
• Escalated to our local MP, Tanya Thompson, who personally contacted us today to say the Health Minister is now aware of Myaih’s situation
John Hunter neurology has accepted her transfer, however there are no ICU beds available, leaving our daughter critically ill in a regional hospital while we wait, terrified and powerless.
As parents, we are living minute to minute with the fear that Myaih may not survive, or that if she does, she may suffer permanent neurological injury. Right now, our only focus is being with her, advocating for her, and supporting her through whatever comes next.
Compounding this crisis, our family has endured tremendous loss over the past 13 months. Myaih lost her beloved grandmother Tracey suddenly, followed by the unexpected loss of her uncle Nathan. As a family, we are emotionally exhausted, and all available leave has already been used, including Myaih’s.
This GoFundMe will help cover:
• Loss of income while we step away from work
• Travel and accommodation costs if Myaih is transferred to Sydney or another tertiary hospital
• Daily expenses so we can remain by her side without financial pressure
• Ongoing support needs during her recovery
We never imagined asking for help like this. But right now, our daughter needs us more than ever, and we need the freedom to be fully present for her without worrying about how we will survive financially.
If you can donate, share, or keep Myaih in your thoughts, we are deeply grateful. Every act of kindness helps us hold on to hope.
Thank you for supporting our girl and our family during the most frightening time of our lives. We ask that people that know us or the family don't attempt to visit or bombard with questions we will update with more information when we know.
With love and hope,
Sarah & William
