This September, my roommate and I came together after both of us went through a series of difficult events. We quickly found that we work well as a team, and we’ve been doing everything we can to pay off the back rent left behind by previous roommates. Despite our determination, I’ve maxed out my credit card, and we’re now facing eviction on the 20th. I’ve been holding down two to three jobs all year, working up to 80 hours a week, but constant emergencies—especially with our health and transportation—have made it impossible to get ahead. On top of everything, I have to make a trip from the 14th to the 18th to move my belongings out of my old house before my uncle moves in January, which is another unexpected expense and source of stress.
