Hello, my name is Jesus Maya, and I am a U.S.-born citizen. On November 8th at approximately 11:00 AM, I was driving with my wife, who is in the country legally, to IHOP at 26th and Cicero when a distressing event occurred. ICE was in the area and suddenly blocked us in the parking lot. In a chaotic sequence of events, they smashed the front passenger side of our vehicle, broke the passenger window, and shot the driver’s side window with pepper-ball launchers.

We were forcibly removed from our car and held for seven long hours in a detention center that resembled a garage, in a situation that felt both degrading and frightening. After countless hours of uncertainty, we were eventually released once our citizenship was verified, but the psychological impact of the experience remains.

We are starting this GoFundMe campaign to seek financial support to cover legal fees for assistance as we navigate the aftermath of this ordeal, as well as to repair the damages to our vehicle. Your donations will help us secure the necessary legal representation and ensure that we can fix our vehicle so we can regain a sense of normalcy in our lives.
