Help Us Afford Printing Scripts for a New Musical Reading!
Donation protected
My name is Shawn Mulligan, and I'm a musical theatre composer, lyricist, playwright, and performer. I graduated from CWU In Ellensburg, WA in 2024 with my BFA in musical theatre, and I'm currently working on a workshop production of my new musical, A Fine Upstanding Lad.
The original version of this piece was presented in a workshop at CWU with lyrics and book by myself and music by myself and Maverick McCarl, where it sold out the McConnell 119 black box theatre for three limited performances. As with all new musical works, I've continued to work on it, hone it, and make it a much better show than it originally was. And that's where this GoFundMe comes in!
I have assembled a team of some really talented young people here in Spokane to do a small private reading of the show in late July of this year. Just me, the performers, an accompanist, and maybe a small invited audience on the day we film the reading. It's a simple set-up: just scripts, stands, and chairs in a small rehearsal space, with a camera in the back capturing the show for posterity. The cast will be rehearsing as a group for three days, followed by the reading proper.
However, while this is mostly a pet project and not a full-blown production by any means, there are still costs associated with it. I'd like to have 10-15 printed copies of the script and score for the actors (5 principals, 4-5 ensemble, plus one for myself, one for a stage direction reader, and one for the accompanist). Each script is 84 pages plus some 30-40 for the score, so the price to get each script printed is around $25. That money adds up quickly as a person who is currently looking for a job and has a very limited income!
So, with your kind donations, I'm looking to get enough money to print at least 10 copies of the script. Any additional money raised will be split equally among the cast of the show as compensation for their hard work bringing this show to life.
If you're able to give even a small amount, I would be forever grateful for it, and it would really help alleviate the financial pressure of this project. Anyone who donates is welcome to a copy of the filmed production once it is filmed, or if you will be in the area, you are cordially invited to the reading (more information to follow). Thank you all so much!
