We are raising funds as a family to support our much-loved daughter, sister, partner and friend, Victoria, who is now facing the fight of her life.

In September 2024, Victoria first went to her GP with a frightening symptom: she could no longer swallow properly. Every meal felt like food was getting stuck in her throat. She returned again and again as her symptoms worsened, her pain increased, and her ability to live a normal life slowly disappeared.

What followed was more than a year of missed opportunities, delayed investigations, and repeated reassurance — while her health deteriorated in plain sight.

Despite multiple tests showing concerning signs, no clear plan or urgency was put in place. Results were not explained, follow-ups didn’t happen, and instead of investigating the cause of her swallowing difficulties, she was repeatedly prescribed medication to manage symptoms.

Over the months that followed:

She struggled to eat even soft foods

She needed excessive liquids just to swallow

She experienced severe pain, choking episodes, and vomiting

She lost over 20kg

She became unable to work or function normally

By the time specialists finally intervened, further investigations revealed a severe oesophageal stricture so tight that even a scope could not pass — fully explaining why she could barely swallow liquids. This should have been identified and treated far earlier.

She has now been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

This diagnosis did not come because her symptoms were mild — but because they were repeatedly dismissed.
