*To update, though this fundraiser has raised the initial target by date needed to prevent losing the additional contributions from charities for my wheelchair set up -
Any more donations will be greatly appreciated and put towards further costs; I intend to continue this fundraiser to cover the separate cost of my SD power wheels and joystick that attach to wheelchair and amount to somewhere around £6000.
I currently own very old second hand 1s that will be transferred over to the new wheelchair, but will likely need to be replaced before long.
I may also have to update if any significant extra expenses arise with the suppliers fitting the initial setup of my wheelchair.
Hi, I'm Suniti & I'm reaching out to urgently raise the funds needed for the remaining costs of my powerchair setup.
*These funds need to be raised as urgent before May 2026, or we will lose the current amount that's already been raised through charities on my behalf.
A great organisation 'Access Your Life', that support disabled people to access needed mobility aids, have been supporting me to fundraise for the powerchair setup most suitable to me for my conditions. We have raised a significant amount of what's needed, but are still falling short. And unfortunately if the remaining amount is not raised by May, we will lose the amount already fundraised, as the charities conditions are to claim back within an allotted time.
TL;DR/ in summary- I am disabled with various chronic health issues & Autistic ADHD and unable to work, so am raising funds towards the incredibly inaccessible expensive costs of the custom mobility aid setup I require. This consists of the 'Ki Rogue 2' aluminium lightweight wheelchair with backrest & headrest & also 'Trackwheel' front wheel attachment. The expenses still outstanding needed for these items is £2,120.
I have been specifically advised to get this model of wheelchair, the 'Ki Rogue 2' - by a service that supports disabled people with getting mobility aids. They are incredibly experienced with trying out different setups for different needs & scenarios. They also have a team made up of people with the same health condition as me that significantly influences what type of chair I have.
Amongst the multiple health issues I navigate, I have hEDS (Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) which is a connective tissue disorder, so affects many parts of my body. I have multi joint pain, weakness & instability & since contracting Long Covid in 2022 & particularly struggling with cardiac issues & POTS my mobility has deteriorated & I have become very 'deconditioned'.
The 'Ki Rogue 2' is a highly lightweight & strong, customisable manual wheelchair that can be easily combined with power attachments.
It will make it much easier for me to transport without having to rely so much on others. Due to it's build & quality it will particularly help to limit impact to my joints preventing as much likelihood of pain & fatigue being caused. I am adding modifications to it that will give me the additional support my condition needs.
We have also fundraised to combine the chair with a front wheel attachment called 'Trackwheel'. This will help to give the chair greater steering & maneuver smoother & with more ability over varied terrain - a really invaluable element for my connective tissue problems & getting out easier.
*I can still walk - but I have a dynamic disability, so some days I may get around trying my best to do things, but others it is a struggle to move beyond my bed. I experience considerable flare ups & sudden unpredictable symptoms.
With being Autistic ADHD I also experience a lot of sensory overwhelm & general overwhelm in navigating the logistics of things. So this also makes it especially important I have the most accurate set up.
Though I can walk I would massively benefit from the most suited wheelchair setup for my specific needs I can get, to limit my discomfort & flares, feel more physically supported & reduce overwhelm in trying to get around.
I cannot self propel the manual wheelchair the NHS provided me with & the suspension, etc proved horrible for my pain & attempting to get over different surfaces.
To better my independence and improve my quality of life, I need a modified wheelchair with power, so I can use it without relying on others to push me.
I got a 2nd hand powerchair last year with funds from a previous crowdfunder as an emergency due to needing to recover from surgery.
It proved invaluable at the time, but I have gained experience in learning how important the correct set up is for my conditions. This 2nd hand chair is far too heavy for me to transport without relying on others & ultimately does not provide the elements mentioned I need for my conditions.
It's a real journey trying out different wheelchair setups, including through various demonstrations I've accessed, and helps to learn a lot, especially in having to accept what's most suitable, rather than a dream.
To summarise I am currently needing to raise the remaining £2,120 as urgent to purchase the 'Ki Rogue' wheelchair & 'Trackwheel' attachment that the service 'Access Your Life' have already fundraised nearly £2,500 of the cost for. If we do not raise the excess £2,120 by May 2026 the charities will have to claim the existing fundraised money back.
*If by any chance this crowdfunder could exceed the £2,120 goal, the extra will go towards new SD power wheels I need to attach to the chair set up. There is currently no urgency of time restraint for this separate element of power attachment.
This mobility aid would mean freedom for me, freedom from being so isolated, freedom from the same four walls. Freedom from so much pain and fatigue, and also better access to nature - something that brings me so much joy.
If you are able to spare anything to help me get this life-changing equipment - or even just share this GoFundMe - then I would be so grateful (especially so this can get attention to meet the target in time for May 2026).
I know times are incredibly tough for so many, so any interaction with this crowdfunding page is very
much appreciated.
Thank you for reading & thank you so much for any support.
Suniti
