We are all deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of our dearest sister, friend, and colleague Shannon Mahoney. She brought warmth, humor, and a driven sense of justice and fairness to everything she did. Shannon was the most kind-hearted and loving person you could meet, bringing irresistible joy and laughter wherever she went. As anyone who knew her would tell you, she was also the absolute all-time best hugger; no one could hug like Shannon. Shannon will be deeply missed. Many of us felt the need to do something to honor and show our love and appreciation for Shannon. And so, as a tribute to her, we created this fundraiser to help support a cause close to Shannon’s heart.

We have created this GoFundMe page to honor Shannon’s passion for archaeology and assisting underrepresented students. The funds will be donated in Shannon’s name and memory to the Society for California Archaeology for underserved community scholarships to attend the SCA annual meeting and/or for student/s research. Any contribution, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated and will help us honor Shannon’s memory in a meaningful way.
