Help Uncle Royce Recover & Get Home After a Tragic Accident

On what was meant to be one of the happiest weekends of his life, Uncle Royce suffered a tragic accident that has left him fighting for his mobility.

The day before his daughter Kelsey’s wedding, Royce was out body surfing with his son, Brock, and soon-to-be son-in-law, Jeff, when a powerful wave knocked him down into the seafloor, causing him to hit his head and injure his neck. In an instant, he lost all feeling in his arms and legs. Brock and Jeff fought against the undertow to pull him out of the water and get him to safety. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he had sustained serious neck trauma.

Now, Royce is preparing for an urgent, high-risk surgery that offers him a strong chance of regaining mobility. However, this life-changing procedure comes with significant costs, and because he is outside the country, in Mexico, he is navigating an unfamiliar medical system with limited resources.

Who Royce Is & Why He Means So Much to Us

If you’ve ever met Royce, you know he’s the kind of person who lights up a room. He has a charismatic energy (also popularly known as ADHD) that makes every moment with him fun, and it’s nearly impossible to spend time with him without laughing your socks off. His passion in life is helping others, and as a pediatric physical therapist, he dedicates his time to improving the lives of children—bringing joy, strength, and encouragement to every kid he works with. Now, he needs that same love and support from all of us as he fights to recover.

The Challenges Ahead

Royce will need to stay in Mexico for at least another week to recover from surgery before he can even consider traveling home. But getting him home is proving to be one of the most difficult and expensive challenges we face. He will need specialized medical transport by plane, which comes at an overwhelming cost.
