My uncle, Leonardo, lives alone in Colombia. He is elderly and disabled, so he cannot work. My family sends him money monthly for his life expenses but it is often not enough. Unfortunately, he has been developing health problems as his age increases.

He currently needs surgery on his vocal cords, or else he will lose the ability to speak. This surgery is an endoscopic resection of a laryngeal lesion (Resección endoscópica de lesión en laringe). This surgery costs 9,615,000 Colombian Pesos, which will be approximately $2,500 USD (depending on conversion rates at the time of transfer). He will be receiving this surgery in Colombia at the San Ignacio University Hospital (Hospital Universitario San Ignacio).

My uncle is a good man who has always been very scientifically inclined and inquisitive about the world around him. In his neighborhood, he has always been known as a caring and generous man who feeds and befriends the stray animals such as dogs, cats, and birds.

If more money is fundraised than needed for the procedure (or conversion rates from USD to Colombian Pesos are more favorable than estimated), the extra funds will go to supporting my uncle's recovery and life expenses.
