Help Uncle Hen Come Home
Donation protected
On February 4th, Uncle Hen was experiencing chest pain more than usual. We called him an ambulance and he was admitted into the ICU at Kona Community Hospital. They soon discovered that his lungs were being compressed by too much fluid build up in his body. They had a procedure to drain the fluid, but by then it had already caused too much damage. His kidneys were failing and his right lung had collapsed. They had to put him in a medically induced coma to help him heal and as they tried to inflate his lung, it caused his heart to become weak. They put him on so many medications just to keep him stable. His condition kept getting worse and Kona Hospital did not have the equipment that they needed to help him at this point. They got him stable enough to where on February 8th, they were able to fly him over to Maui Memorial Medical Center. After being in Maui for a couple of days the nurse that was helping take care of him let us know that he opened his eyes! We had so much hope that he might be able to come home soon.
Then we received a call. On Friday February 12th, we received the worst news we could ever think of. The doctor told us that his heart medicines were no longer working. If these are our last days with him, we would like to spend them with him and say goodbye in person. Times are especially tough with COVID right now, but with this money a few of our family members will be able to fly over to Maui to be with him as he passes on and they will be able to bring him home to the Big Island. We need these funds as soon as humanly possible because we don't know how much time he has left. Any funds that are left over will also help us pay for any medical expenses that his insurance does not cover.
As of right now, he is fairly stable. His condition continues to go up and down, but we will not lose hope. We appreciate any help you can give.
