Twelve years ago, I met Uma and her mother on the side of the road. Uma was so frightened that she ran up a tree, and I plucked her from the branches like a piece of fruit. From that moment, she became a part of my family. She’s always been a loving cat, even though she has a vision disability that makes the world a little harder to navigate. Her big personality and gentle spirit have brought so much joy to my life.

The past couple of years have been especially hard. I lost her brother Mewsie, her mother Izzy, and my other cat Mathilde. Through all this loss, Uma has been my constant companion and comfort. Now, she’s facing her own health challenge. For about a year, Uma has had small asthma attacks, but in the last month, they’ve become almost daily. It’s heartbreaking to watch her struggle to breathe, and I want to do everything I can to help her.
