Dear Friends,
Over two million citizens of Ukraine have entered Poland to find refuge from the ongoing war, and there are many more that will be crossing that border in the next several days. The lines are getting longer, and wait time on the border is currently about 12-20 hours.
My parents own a hostel in west-central Poland. They are currently providing rooms for Ukrainian women and children who were forced to leave their country because of Russia's invasion and heartless attacks on the civilian population. For some, it is a long-term stay and they already found or are actively looking for jobs. Not all of them will be able to work, because of the number and age of kids in their care (they have a few kids whose both parents stayed in Ukraine, and they are being cared for by an aunt or a neighbor). For others, it is temporary - they regroup, rest, and catch a bus or a train to travel to their final destination west of Poland. On average, they host over 20 refugees at any given time, but that number will be increasing as I have more and more American friends reaching out to see if their Ukrainian family members, friends, and acquaintances would be welcomed there. My Dad is picking the people staying with them up from the Polish-Ukrainian border, located about 6 hours from my hometown.
Your donations will go towards food items, clothes, baby formula, diapers, hygiene items, toys, and books for the kids. It will not replace their homes, destroyed by Russian bombs, but it will give them hope, making a big difference in those kids' lives. They have been living through hell since February 24, watching their family members, friends, neighbors getting killed, and schools, churches, hospitals being wiped out by missiles. I want to show them that there are good people in this world who will take care of them while their brothers, fathers, and grandfathers are risking their lives to fight for a better future for their families.
