Help Ukrainian Refugee Family Get on Their Feet

Allow me to introduce you to Igor, Oksana, Sveta, and Ira. The Redko family fled Ukraine towards the end of 2022. They left behind a successful business, all they own, pets, friends, and all their extended family. They are truly starting over in an unfamiliar land and a language they don’t entirely know. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine sending your child to a new school in a foreign land and your child not even able to understand fully the language? Can you imagine leaving your family, your business, your home, and your friends because all you want is to feel safe? To say it’s overwhelming would be an understatement. That said, they are grateful! They see opportunity and are working towards becoming self-sufficient. They have a long way to go.

As we have worked with Ukrainians legally entering the US, it is important they find a place to stay, a place to work, and a way to get around. Sponsors willing to go “all in” are critical, and it has been awesome seeing US families step up for these refugees. Thanks to a generous sponsor, the Redko family has had a place to stay, both Igor and Oksana have found places to work, and their sponsor has loaned them a vehicle to use. That said, they are restricted by the type of work they are legally allowed to do so generating enough income to cover those 3 necessities will be a long-term struggle. As they get themselves on their feet, both Oksana and Igor need separate vehicles to make it to their respective work assignments reliably while attending to their daughters needs as well.

Although they have access to one vehicle, our goal is to generate a bit of money to help them purchase their own vehicle. This will help eliminate one of the eventual challenges they face long-term in funding their own place to stay and their own transportation. Their ultimate desire is to be self-sufficient.
